Extraordinary Nurses Recognized at Alliancehealth Ponca City
2/13/2023
PONCA CITY, OK –– Nurses at AllianceHealth Ponca City are being honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses ®. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's mission to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate nursing care they provide patients and families every day. The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, by members of his family. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.) The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
The AllianceHealth Ponca City DAISY Award recipient for the First Quarter 2022 is Brandi Martin, R.N. Brandi was nominated by a patient who shared the following, “I want the hospital and public to know that you have an exceptional nurse on your staff. Brandi is very professional, very caring, listens, does the little things, and always asks you if there is anything else you need or what she can do for you. I highly recommend Brandi for any honors, recognition, or encouragement that you can give her. I have been a patient in several hospitals recently and she is the best nurse around. Thank you.”
Brandi has been employed with our hospital since November, 2018 on the Medical Surgical Unit. She is a great member of our team as shared by her supervisors, “Brandi is such a great leader and resource to her peers. She is always the first one to offer help even when she is busy. When she works she lifts up the whole department with her can-do attitude and caring nature. Brandi is always a great team player. She goes above and beyond to help her coworkers and patients in any way she can. She really has a heart of gold!”
In addition to daisy flowers and a certificate of appreciation, Brandi was presented with a special Healer's Touch Sculpture. The beautiful sculpture is called "The Healer's Touch", representing the bond between nurses and their patients. The sculpture was hand carved, made of serpentine stone and was signed by the Shona artist from Zimbabwe who created it. The economy and politics of Zimbabwe have been in turmoil for decades, however, through their work for DAISY, the Shona artists are able to support hundreds of people in their community. This sculpture is a symbol also of nurses reaching around the world to impact lives around the world. “We are proud to be among the healthcare organizations participating in The DAISY Award program. Nurses are heroes every day. It’s important that our nurses know their work is highly valued, and The DAISY Foundation provides a way for us to do that,” said Jeanne Stara, chief nursing officer.
This is one initiative of The DAISY Foundation to express gratitude to the nursing profession. Additionally, DAISY offers J. Patrick Barnes Grants for Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice Projects, The DAISY Faculty Award to honor inspiring faculty members in schools and colleges of nursing, and The DAISY in Training Award for nursing students. More information is available at DAISYfoundation.org. Congratulations, Brandi!
